Written-Out Step by Step Drawing Instructions

(Step 1) Draw a circle. Trace a cup or lid to get a perfect circle.

(Step 2) All blue lines in this tutorial are guide lines and will be erased later on. Draw a smaller circle than the first circle…draw it towards the right of the ball.

(Step 3) Draw an upside down "Y"-like shape.

(Step 4) Draw 2 outward lines. Then draw a dot on each line, as I have.

(Step 5) Connect all those dots to form a pentagon.

(Step 6) Draw a wide "V"-like shape on each of the outward guide lines.

(Step 7) Draw 2 lines on each of the "V" shapes from Step #6. Make sure to look at the lines I've drawn to see which direction each line is going.

(Step 8) Connect the lines on the left side of the ball.

(Step 9) Now we are gonna start outlining the guidelines. Then we will erase the guide lines for good.

(Steps 10 – 12) We are continuing.

(Step 13) Fill in the black portions of the ball. We then lightly shaded the rest of the ball. You can use a tissue afterwards to soften the part you shaded.

(Step 14) Use an eraser to erase the lines, as I have.

(Steps 15-16) We are shading the actual lines, by making it darker in some places. Click on the picture and zoom in to see which parts of the lines I am darkening.

(Step 17) Darken the outer portions of the ball a bit, as I have. This will make the ball appear rounded.

(Step 18) I outlined the ball…but if you want it super realistic, don't do that.

Use a white or yellow pencil to add a glow to the center black spot on the ball.

Draw and shade in a partial circle below the ball. Use a tissue to smudge it, especially around the edges. This is a shadow.
